How to Live a Restful Life
The only way we can live a restful, dependent life as Christ did is to do what the writer to the Hebrews referred to as resting from our own works. “Anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work” (Hebrews 4:10).
The “Yes” That Brought Joy
I received an email from someone who said that when she read Samuel Logan statement, “God was preparing him to find as much joy in a hidden life as in an open and successful one,” her heart jumped with joy! She explained that God keeps asking her: “‘Are you willing to be small, to be hidden, the one nobody sees, or notices, or recognizes, or acknowledges?’
Kathy Stopped Her Job
God challenged Kathy to stop her full time job and depend upon Him for finances. She realized that if she continued working, she would be seeing what she could do. If she quit her job, He would show her what He could do.
Crucified Thoughts
I was attending a seminar in St. Louis and had begun the first day with a sweet awareness of Jesus’ presence. By that evening I was praying, “Lord, why did I lose that sense of Your presence as the day progressed?” I dreaded going back the second day without an inner confidence that I was abiding in Him.
My Lesson About How to Dress
A few decades ago, a couple who had found Jesus while kneeling at our family room sofa, decided to get married, and they asked my husband and me to stand up with them. As the bride and I were getting dressed the day of their wedding, she asked me to wear something I had never worn and was unsure that I should.
Avoiding Impatience
When a Salvation Army preacher was struck by a half-drunk man, he fell and struck his head against the curb with such force that everyone thought he was dead. He struggled to his feet, looked at the man who had struck him, and said, “God bless you,” and resumed his address.
Why Did You Stop Praying for Me?
“Why did you stop praying for me?” Lois asked her friend.
If God Is Silent
When Patty first came to our home Bible study and began praying as a new Christian, she received remarkable answers to prayer. Small things she asked for appeared in such unusual ways that she could not mistake those happenings as coincidences.
