She Carried His Presence

I heard a Jewish girl share the story of her parents’ conversion. Her father, a chiropractor, had a technician named Mary whose witness, love, and prayers convinced him that Jesus is the Messiah.

He went home and told his wife about what he had come to believe, and she said sternly, “Don’t ever mention that name again!” He felt it was not right to disrupt his family’s harmony, so he quietly embraced the truth of Jesus but did not invite Him into his life.

For twenty years, Mary continued to love and pray for this family.

One year her parents went to a chiropractic conference they did not know was Christian sponsored. When the couple walked in, they immediately recognized the spirit of the people to be the same as Mary’s spirit.

The mother picked up a copy of the “Four Spiritual Laws” and on the way home found herself drawn to it. As she read, the truth about Jesus became clear, and as a result she received Jesus into her life.

They recognized the spirit of Mary, their employee! When we are with a non-Christian, we bring the presence of Christ. His presence within us is a reality and makes a difference.

“If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here,” pleaded Moses when God called him to lead the Israelites. “What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” (Exodus 33:15, 16).

Jesus, if Your presence is not with me, I have nothing to mark me as distinct from anyone else.

“The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’” (Exodus 33:14).
