Let God Enjoy You

When our friend Mary Carroll asked her granddaughter what she could buy for her on their shopping trip, the little girl responded, “Nothing, Nana, I just wanted to be with you.” Sometimes we need to come to God without requests but simply wanting to be with Him. God delights in us when we desire the joy of being near Him.

God is looking for worshipers. We tend to approach Him as though He’s looking for workers, but our heavenly bridegroom is wooing a bride, not hiring a servant. He values our prayer and communion more than our labor and sacrifice.

Amazingly, it seems that our fellowship with Him is first of all for His pleasure! He enjoys us!

Before the priests could eat the bread in the Old Testament tabernacle, it was to be offered to God for six days. “Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times,” God instructed Moses in Exodus 25:30. After they had offered the bread to God, the priests could eat it.

When God promises to eat with all those who invite Him into their hearts, He mentions His eating first. “I stand at the door and knock; if any man hears me let him open the door and I will come in and eat with him and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

I praise You, dear Lord, for offering to me the joy of Your fellowship.

“For the Lord’s portion is His people” (Deuteronomy 32:9).

“Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight” (Psalm 43:4).

“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God” (Psalm 61:10).

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).
