The Second Greatest Mystery of All Time

A friend shared that one morning after she awakened, she said, “Jesus, I’m in You and You’re in me, and we’re both in the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

That truth is too delightful to comprehend. A theologian once said that the greatest mystery, second only to the mystery of the Trinity, is the mystery of God’s Spirit living within us—the indwelling Holy Spirit. Although we can never fully comprehend this awesome mystery we can learn to enjoy it and delight in it.

The apostle Paul says it again and again, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” He also stated, “God sent the Spirit of His Son into your hearts,” (Galatians 4:6).

Because the Holy Spirit indwells us we have the privilege of simply lifting our decisions and all our ways to Him throughout the day. He will direct us. “In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6 KJV). “In all thy ways!” I recall regretting a decision I had made, and the Holy Spirit gently reminded me that I had not acknowledged Him.

I understand what it means to acknowledge a friend when she enters a room. I turn to greet rather than ignore her. So when a situation comes in my path, no matter the size, I’m to acknowledge the Lord by saying, “Jesus, what about this?”

Someone asked A. B. Simpson, “What does it mean to abide in Jesus?” Dr. Simpson replied, “It is to keep on saying minute by minute, ‘For this I have Jesus!’” The unspoken implication is “For this situation I have Jesus and He is enough. He will provide the wisdom, peace, protection, guidance, and comfort—all I need.”

Dear Lord, the more I acknowledge You and delight in Your abiding in me, the more I realize that, indeed, having You is enough.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever” (John 14:16)
