God Is With You

G. Campbell Morgan sat by the bedside of an elderly lady and read Jesus’ words, “I am with you always even unto the end of the world.”

Morgan told her, “That is a great promise.”

She looked up at him and replied, “That is not a promise at all. That is a fact.”

Jesus wants us to take His words as a fact and to live as though we believe them. One day before I was to meet with someone for prayer, I prayed, “Dear Jesus, please be with us.”

Immediately this thought came: “I’ll show up, but will you?”

Then I remembered the past days in which it seemed I failed to concentrate during prayer time. My mind floated around with little restraint. There were so many things to think about!

Now the Lord was saying, “I’ll show up, but will you? I will be with You, but will you be with Me?”

If our attention is turned upon ourselves it is turned away from the Lord. It is not that He hides Himself; He is always in full view, but if we are looking in another direction, we, of course, cannot see Him.”

He is always with us ready to give us His attention. It is we who must turn our faces to Him.

Dear Jesus, I choose today to draw near You with my mind and my spirit.

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry” (Psalm 34:15).
