Let’s Adore Him

Mary of Bethany expressed her love for Jesus by pouring out a year’s worth of perfume on Jesus. Her sacrificial giving and her profuse worship affected all those around her. The fragrance filled the house, and Jesus promised that the memory of her lovely deed would last forever. Many people did wonderful things in Jesus’ day, but Mary of Bethany was the only one who received this promise. Some watching thought, What a waste! Our adoration might seem like a waste of time to others, but not to Jesus.

Through our loving adoration of Christ we become carriers of His presence, and our sacrificial worship becomes a fragrance that others notice. We then inspire both Christians and non-christians to want to draw closer to the Lord. Everyone wants Jesus, even if they do not know it.

Mother Theresa said, “We did adoration two hours, one in the morning and one in the night. We fell more in love with Jesus and got more intimacy. And our love for each other and the poor become stronger. It’s through Jesus’ presence, and in the most Holy place, that we can give a Hope to the world in Him.”

What would be a costly praise for us to offer? Perhaps it could be one referred to in Hebrews 13:15: “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.” A sacrifice calls for death, and to praise continually often calls us to give up our own opinions of what God should do in our situation. When we honor Him by offering praise for all He allows, He considers it a costly praise. Such extravagant worship is precious to Him.

I praise You, Father, by accepting everything in this present moment as coming from Your good hand.

“He who offers sacrifices of praise prepares the way for the salvation of the Lord” (Psalm 50:23).
