Willie and Praise

Several years ago I attended “The Awakening” hosted by Crossroads Tabernacle. Beth Jones, the pastor’s wife, told the following incident.

Nine-year-old Willie was walking in his back yard when he saw some money on the ground. Just as he leaned over to pick it up, a man grabbed him from behind. He put Willie in his car and began to drive away.

Willie later told the news reporter that he remembered a song he had learned at church, and he began singing, “Every praise is to our God.” He sang the song over and over.

His captor became angry and cursed and yelled at him to stop singing, but Willie continued to sing, “Every praise is to our God….”

The captor could not stand it. He pulled over, stopped the car, and shoved the boy out.

Whether we are being held captive by an individual, in prison like Paul and Silas, or in a prison-like circumstance, praise brings deliverance.

Dear Lord, help me to remember that praise is a powerful way to resist the enemy.

“I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:3).

“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
