God Works Even in Our Disappointments
“Be of good cheer,” Paul said on a sinking ship, “for I believe God” (Acts 7:25). We have good cheer, too, when we believe God. Fear and anxiety have no place in our hearts when we’re sure that all things rest in the hands of our loving God.
“Oh how excellent are the crosses of Providence!” wrote E. E.Shelhammer. Even in our disappointments, let’s believe that He is working all for our good! Only unbelief in the goodness of God would cause us to fail to rejoice.
I especially love the last two verses of “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy.”
“It is God: His love looks mighty,
But is mightier than it seems;
’Tis our Father: and His fondness
Goes far out beyond our dreams.
“But we make His love too narrow
By false limits of our own;
And we magnify His strictness
With a zeal He will not own.”
Thank You, dear Father, for love that goes far beyond my dreams.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Psalm 90:14).
