The Man With Two Heads
Dr. Chen developed a cancer on the side of his face that grew so enormous that from a distance it looked as if he had two heads.* People frequently turned away in horror when he walked down the street in their town of Nanyang in China. Dr. Chen suffered much pain and was unable to sleep.
A physician told him and his 12-year-old grandson that there was nothing that could be done. He was to go home and prepare to die. The physician gave some poison to the grandson, advising him to end his grandfather's life "mercifully" by slipping it into his tea.
The boy was so distressed that later in the day he walked down the street weeping uncontrollably. He knew he could not do what the physician ordered. His intense wailing caught the attention of people including a house church evangelist who stopped and asked what was wrong.
The boy told the evangelist what had happened, and after counseling the boy not to obey the physician, he gave him a piece of paper and said, "Please bring your grandfather to this address at seven tonight."
In intense agony and not knowing what to expect, Dr. Chen and his grandson entered the house where they found a house church meeting in progress. A preacher was sharing the Word of God. After he concluded, the evangelist laid his hands on each of Dr. Chen's "heads," and prayed a simple prayer, asking God to heal him.
Dr. Chen returned home, fell asleep, and woke up thirteen hours later. It was the first time in three months he had good rest. However, he still had two "heads." The preacher told them not to worry, because God had already healed him and it would take a little time for the physical symptoms to reflect the spiritual reality of what had happened.
Within one week, his appearance returned to normal. Even the stretched skin where his face had ballooned out now looked unscarred.
After Dr. Chen became a disciple of Jesus Christ, his conscience troubled him because he had deceived people by selling fake pills he knew contained no medicinal value. He repented, threw the pills away, and made new labels for the pill bottles that said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be healed!"
People in Nanyang who had seen him before recognized that a miracle had taken place. Within two years, he had led more than 300 people to faith in the Great Physician.
