Does Jesus Care?

When my mother received the news that she had cancer, God knew I needed an unmistakable sign of His all-sufficient grace. One night, I awakened and went downstairs to pray. I was too worried to pray though. Mingled with the pain of watching my mother suffer and the pain of losing someone I loved dearly was the frightening thought of having to acquire nursing skills. Even combing someone else's hair was "not my specialty," as my mother put it.

Suddenly God spoke to me a line from an old song. "I will fear not the future and dread not the foe." My fears suddenly vanished. God would provide.

And provide He did. It was as though God Himself orchestrated her care. It seemed so natural to learn how to turn her in bed and to acquire other basic nursing skills I thought I could never master.

One day after God took her home, I read some journaling I had done while she was sick. I was amazed to find that on what seemed to be nearly every page, I had written, "All is well."

God was there and He was enough.

Thank You, Jesus, for Your omnipresent love and your unfailing faithfulness.
