Let Jesus Carry Your Burden
One day some years ago, I read in Galatians, "The just shall live by faith." For days I lived in those words, and in the following months they greatly influenced my thinking. The just shall live by faith continually--not sporadically. If I live by faith, I live as though God is in control. I have no anxiety.
If I live by faith, I do not leave a prayer time when I've been confident God has heard and then act as though I'm doubting. I continue to rest in Christ's promises and depend upon Him for direction. I live, speak, and act as though I have faith in God for the immediate situation.
This rest of faith is typified in scripture by the Sabbath when the Israelites were to do no work or carry no burden. If I am keeping this inward Sabbath, I'm bearing no burdens because the Lord bears my burdens for me.
"There is therefore a rest to the people of God" (Hebrews 4:9). I love that phrase reminding me that faith brings rest.
"But will anything be accomplished?" is often our natural fear when we decide to let go of a situation and act in faith. The answer is surprising. The Israelites were promised their greatest victories if they kept the Sabbath rest. If you "call the sabbath a (spiritual) delight....Then shall you delight yourself in the Lord, and I will make you to ride on the high places of the earth." (Isaiah 58:13, 14 Amp.). It is through our completely resting on the promises of God--living by faith, not sight--that we, too, have our richest gains, our most glorious victories.
Dear Jesus, please help me to live this day by faith.
"Casting the whole of your care--all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all-on Him for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully" ( I Peter 5:7 Amp.).
