Why We Can Always Rejoice

If only I had looked to the Lord and had trusted Him for guidance when I made that decision! It may not have been a major situation, but at the moment, all I could think about was that I had made a mistake. The incident left me wondering how I could obey His word to “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4)?

I opened my Bible to Psalm 145 and read that God is full of compassion and rich in love. That was a good word. Still I was not rejoicing in the Lord.

I went to the verse I continually rely upon: Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” I had previously underlined “we know,” but what the Lord helped me to see and to believe were the words “God works.” He doesn’t just sit and say, “You blew it. You’re in a mess. You can’t have My good plans now.” No, He goes to work for those who trust Him. When God works, things do not remain the same.

I checked this verse in the Amplified and read, “We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor], all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good….”

Immediately I saw that God was saying He would be a worker with me in this situation to bring good despite my failure. My heart began to rejoice. Satan was defeated because I was trusting God to work. I rejoiced in the Lord!

Thank You, dear Father, for working to bring good out of any situation in which we trust You.

“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth” (Psalm 34:1).
