Repent and Rejoice
The following is from a Christian leader who joined a corporate fast.
"I began a fast late in August, giving up a certain favorite, daily 'snack' that in and of itself is not a sinful thing, but I realized that God wanted me to fast something that would mean a daily 'sacrifice' for me--to remind me throughout the day that I was choosing His better way to feel fulfilled.
"Along with what I am setting aside, I pray daily for revival--first in me (Lord, show me what You see that I need to know...) and my husband and in our spheres of influence.
God is showing me personally areas where I have been sloppy, careless and even sinful in 'little' things. He says, 'No. That is big enough to be dealt with.'
"I am pained by the rubbish and sin that is being exposed. But an inner Voice is saying to me, 'Rejoice, and be exceeding glad. Revival begins when there is repentance. Repentance comes when sin is exposed and seen for what it is. This is the beginning of revival. Thank Me for what I am already doing and preparing to do.' I am trusting that it is so-that it's early birth pangs of revival.
"I feel so unfit for helping others, and yet it is our emptiness that He can fill. It is our brokenness that can be used to help others find grace. 'Lord, let me not miss anything you want to do in me!'"
"We are dealing with bigger issues than the churches have faced until now. Still, I choose to praise because I believe God is unearthing some deep, stubborn roots of pride, self sufficiency, a feel-good gospel and more. I pray that the way is being 'prepared for the Lord.'
"The Spirit has prompted me to add fasting times at other times than I had originally planned. I am open to His prompting in this regard.
Dear Father, Your rebuke and call to repentance are always signs of Your love and desire to bless us. Do not leave us with "hidden" sins.
"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent" (Rev. 3:19). "Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings" (Prov. 1:23).
