A Mystery Bag Pam Will Never Forget
(Pam Enderby, office manager of Come to the Fire, sent the following in her blog "Quiet Waters.")*
The Holy Spirit is devoted to us. He's always praying for us. He's committed to our well-being. He knows every one of our needs. Even my need for new slippers. The Holy Spirit was with me when I walked into Tuesday Morning. (I'm sure of that because we can never be separated from Him!) A rack of slippers arrested my attention.
There were all sorts of styles and colors! I felt excited. For weeks I'd been thinking my sloppy, worn-out ones needed to be thrown away. But I couldn't find time to go slipper shopping.
I pray about everything. With a bit of prayer in between try ons, I still couldn't find a single pair that felt just right. I left the store empty handed and a little let down, conversing with Holy Spirit about that.
About a week later, my husband and I went to the Everything is $5 store. It's rare John and I shop together for anything but groceries! However, I believe we were there, together, primarily because the Holy Spirit knew I'd need my husband's fun-loving, light-hardheartedness. When John spotted the large "mystery bags" he suggested we buy one. I resisted. He enthusiastically urged me again. For only $2.50, I figured the loss would be minimal, so I agreed.
John picked up two bags and decided on the heavier one. I must admit I felt somewhat excited to get in the car and look inside my mystery bag.
First, I pulled out a book. Then Halloween make-up and a gadget which we still haven't figured out what it's for.Resting on the bottom of the bag was a pair of women's slippers! I gasped. "They're cute." I slipped them on. "They fit! They're comfortable!" And they're worth far more than the price we paid for the bag!
I keep discovering, by experience, how personal the Holy Spirit is. In this case, He was my Guide. His beautiful nature causes me to love Him more. I'm learning to rely on Him for everything.
Precious Holy Spirit, you know me inside and out. Thank you for Your guidance even when I'm not aware of it. There is no place I can go and You're not with me.
"O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar ... Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord ... Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?" (Psalm 139:1-2, 7).
