Pass on God's Love
One holiday a lonely lady prayed, "Dear God, You see how weighted down I've been. I can't eat or sleep. I've been telling people all week that you care about details and that you meet all our needs. Now I need some kind of proof You love me." In less than fifteen minutes a teenager came to her door bringing her a rose and offering to wash and vacuum her car. God said, "See, I do love you."
"Bring me word of your unfailing love," cried David to God in Psalm 143, and God does that for us-precise timing of details, gorgeous sunsets, a bargain on the new shoes we needed. Often, however, His love comes to us from those we know best. It may be a word of encouragement someone speaks as we walk out of church or someone volunteers to babysit for a single mom so she can have an evening off. God shows us His love in an amazing variety of ways.
If David felt a need to hear of God's unfailing love, there are certainly those around us longing for the same word. God gives us the ability to be creative and delights in us when we use that gift for Him. A part of creating appropriate love gestures is studying the interests and possible needs of others. Then, if we do a little pre-planning, we'll be able to pass on the word of God's unfailing love.
Dear Jesus, help me to be aware of how I can be Your hand extended to those who need encouragement.
"Encourage one another and build each other up" (1 Thessalonians 5:11)."Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
