Jesus Is Looking for You

Simon had a dinner in honor of Jesus. He had plenty of food for all the guests, but he had forgotten the one thing Jesus wanted more than all else. Christ wanted the worship of Simon's spirit-not simply his service.

A woman slipped into their gathering, and as she stood behind Christ, she began to weep. She loved Him so much! Her tears fell on His feet which were behind Him as He reclined at Simon's table. She tenderly wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and poured perfume on them.

None of this was lost on Jesus. He chided Simon for not showing Him love. "You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet" (Luke 7:45).

Jesus is still noticing those who want to communicate their love to Him. He whispers, "I was looking for you" to those who come to worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23)

Jesus told the woman at the well that God is Spirit. Once we understand that God is Spirit, we recognize that our gifts of worship to Him must be of our spirits.

Genuine worship does not consist in coming to a specific place nor in going through a certain ritual. True worship is when our spirit speaks to and meets with God. Through our spirit, we can attain an intimacy with God.

I thank You, Lord that you are near to all who call on you in truth. (Psalm 145:18)

"Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits" (Psalm 103:1, 2).
