Does He Care about the Details?

"Does God care whether we have pizza and salad today or if we have soup and a sandwich?" a friend asked while we ate lunch.

"God cares about us. If we are greatly concerned about some detail, then He cares just because it is of concern to us."

"Oh, I see," she replied. "When my husband and I were on the cruise, I wanted to bring back a gift for my dad, but I couldn't decide if I should get him a mug or a pen I was given at Cayman Islands. Now my husband doesn't care three fruit loops what I get my dad, but when he saw it was such a big deal to me, he got involved. He cared because it was a big deal to me!"

When tempted to think, This detail is too small to bother God with, God wants us to remember that he cares about what we care about simply because it is of concern to us.

Tozer writes in The Knowledge of the Holy, "Many think of God as far removed, gloomy, and mightily displeased with everything, gazing down in a mood of fixed apathy upon a world in which He has long ago lost interest; but this is to think erroneously."

When Jesus performed the miracle of turning the water into wine at a wedding, He was showing His tender concern for this couple. People would not have gone hungry or thirsty without it, but the bridal couple would have been embarrassed. How like Him to use His glory to prevent their humiliation! He, who would go hungry rather than ask for the Father's power to turn stone into bread for Himself, was eager to protect this couple from embarrassment.

Dear Lord, I am in awe of Your loving concern for all of my interests.

"The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant" (Psalm 35:27).
