Thinking of Eternity

In his book, Measure Your Life,  Wesley Duewel discusses the importance of finding God's purposes in every area of our lives. He states that for each day we spend on earth, there will be billions and billions and billions of future years in which we'll reap what we sow. Every second of every day will be of tremendous significance in eternity.

In light of that, how carefully we should guard all our moments. Sometimes women say they live to shop or someone says of another, "He lives to eat." But if we are like Jesus, we live for a different purpose. Jesus "always lives to intercede" (Heb. 7:25). Intercession is His reason for being. It is His purpose; it is what He exists to do.

Could it be that someday we'll say, "But, Lord if I had known You were going to answer all those prayers, I would have prayed more." By that time our journey will be over and we will have said farewell to the "sweet hour of prayer."

How fortunate that we are still on the journey of life and can still invest in prayer that will pay eternal dividends.

Thank You, Jesus, that Your call to prayer will be so perfectly suited to us and to our schedules that we do not need to fear it.

"Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12).
