When we say God is infinite, we mean there are no limits. There is no limit to His goodness, no limit to His justice, no limit to His love, no limit to His wisdom, no limit to what He can do. We cannot define Him, we cannot limit Him.
He is the infinite God. Dr. R. E. Carroll tells in his book High Conceptions of God of the infinite size of the universe. It takes light ten thousand years to cross the narrow part of the Milky Way galaxy. It takes light a hundred thousand years to travel from one end to the other of the Milky Way.
With real effort we might be able to imagine a distance from here to the end of the Milky Way galaxy, but the Andromeda Nebula galaxy is a million and a half light-years away. Our finite minds cannot imagine those distances.
Then there is the unlimited power of God. The earth is whirling around the sun at eighteen and one half miles per second. Scientists have determined that it would take a steel bar five thousand miles in diameter to resist the force of the earth's weight and the centrifugal force that would throw it away from the sun.
On what does God hang the earth? "He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing" (Job 26:7).
If the earth went much faster than the eighteen and one half miles per second, it would go hurling out into space. If it were to go slower, it would be drawn into the sun.
This infinite God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20). "With God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26). He is able to do far more than we can think of asking.
Thank You, Father, that transforming and caring for Your people is the work You most delight in.
"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being" (Revelations 4:11).
