On Her Deathbed
My friend Brigitta sent me the following story about her mother's dying of cancer and emphysema. "I believe early in her life through some tragedy, Satan got hold of her. Because of his hold, she was a difficult person and verbally abusive.
"I got to my parent's home on Tuesday afternoon. My mother thanked me for coming and those were some of the last words she spoke. One night, after giving her morphine drops, I tried to lie down, but God's Spirit told me to get up and read in my Word about Jesus driving out the demons. I was scared and felt a coldness, but I obeyed. I read where Jesus rebuked the evil spirits and then I began to ask Jesus to release my mother from the hold that Satan had on her. I knew only in the name of Jesus, only in His power could she be set free.
"One day her cries were with such agony that I ran out of the house screaming to the Lord, 'Father, why have You forsaken us. Father, take my mother now.'
"As clear as day, the Spirit of God spoke in my spirit, 'Do not pray that for God is working in your mother's spirit.'
"I immediately prayed, 'God, forgive me. Thy will be done, but help my mother bear her pain.'
"A few nights later I started to lie down opposite my mother when again the Spirit of God said 'Do not lie down. Get your Bible and pray what Jesus prayed on the cross.'
"I obeyed and read Luke 23:44-46. I started praying, 'Father, into your hands, I commit my mother's spirit," and the third time I prayed those words, my mother took her last breath.
"I believe my mother called out to Jesus in her spirit and trusted Him in her final moments. All the pain and agony left her and she looked beautiful. I knew she was in the presence of God, beholding her Savior, Jesus Christ face to face."
Thank You, Jesus, for defeating Satan and overcoming death.
"When our perishable earthly bodies have been transformed into heavenly bodies that will never die--then at last the Scriptures will come true: "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Corinthians 15:54).
