Prove You Trust Him

Not only did God tell the Israelites to follow the ark into the uncrossable Jordan, the priests were to take the first step into the river. “And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap” (Joshua 3:13).

When they approached the edge of the waters with the ark, they were to stand still as though their bodies were forming a dam against the force of the water. What a preposterous thought! They would step into the river and stop the flow of the raging flood!

God not only called for their faith, He called for obedience. They were both to trust that the ark would lead them and follow as though their efforts would accomplish the miraculous. God required the priests to step into the water before He parted it.

This is often where we stumble. We pray, but then we fail to step into the water. How easy it is to listen to the voice that says, “You can’t teach that Sunday School class,“ “You cannot write that article,” “You don’t know what to say to help her, so don’t try.”

What step might God be asking you to take that would indicate you are trusting Him rather than yourself?

Jesus, please give me grace to not proceed until I see the ark and then grace to step into the Jordan.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7).
